2021 College Faculty and Staff Award Recipients

Attendees of the 2021 Virtual College Faculty and Staff Awards appear onscreen in Zoom.

For nearly 30 years, faculty and staff of the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering gathered on campus every spring to celebrate the outstanding achievements and overall excellence throughout the college.

That is, until 2020 and the pandemic derailed plans last spring.

Like most events at the time, the college was unable to meet and celebrate the accomplishments of the previous year. New faculty and staff also did not get their broad introductions to the community around them, a highlight of each year’s event.

It was not going to happen a second time. On Monday, March 22, the college made up for it with the first virtual engineering faculty and staff awards ceremony. Over 170 attendees from across the college’s departments and divisions attended the ceremony through Zoom.

Awards were given for staff and faculty accomplishments, along with recognition of patents and research awards by CSU Ventures.

An opportunity to see the whole college

For some staff members, the college-wide virtual event gave them a chance to see how many people are in the college.

Katharyn Peterman, Marketing and Communications Coordinator for the Department of Systems Engineering, started her new position a year ago during the first week CSU was fully online. Even with virtual meetings and events, she has not had many opportunities to meet others outside of her department.

“I really enjoyed the ceremony because it was my first time truly getting to see how many people are associated with the college,” Peterman said. “I loved getting to listen to and read everyone’s celebratory messages to the award winners.”
