Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Branislav Notaros has been elected 2024 president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Antennas and Propagation Society, or IEEE AP-S.
His service as president-elect commenced this month.
In his new role, the Colorado State University Distinguished Teaching Scholar will drive strategic initiatives and facilitate further collaboration amongst the 9,500 society members who lead research on antennas, propagation, and electromagnetics engineering. The field enables an array of technologies, from wireless communication to radars to magnetic resonance imaging.
The honor is a career highlight for Notaros, who was recently recognized by the society for publishing the best paper of the year.
“For me, this is a privilege and opportunity of a lifetime – the highest and most impactful professional position I could ever achieve,” said Notaros. Ever since he was a graduate student three decades ago, Notaros said his research, scholarship, and professional endeavors have centered on the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society.
IEEE AP-S publishes six top journals and sponsors 40 international conferences in the field. Notaros, who served as general chair of the society’s flagship conference in Denver last July, will oversee its 24 standing committees around the world.
In 2020, Notaros was elected president of the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society, or ACES. He is a Fellow of IEEE and ACES, and boasts numerous research and teaching awards, including the IEEE Undergraduate Teaching Award and ECE Distinguished Educator Award from the American Society for Engineering Education. He was also named Colorado Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation.
