Earthen canals have long been used to help irrigate agricultural crops, but can also leak water. A team of CSU researchers is working to prevent that water waste.

Water is in short supply in the west. That either means finding more or using what you have more wisely. The major way farmers get water to their fields is via earthen canals. It's an old and inefficient system. A lot of the water seeps into the ground. Stopping those leaks is a mission Timothy Gates and Joe Scalia are on. They’re engineers and professors at Colorado State University.
