Department of Energy awards $25M to spur partnership and research at CSU methane detection facility
A new $25 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy is set to enhance the capabilities of the Methane Emissions Technology Evaluation Center (METEC) at Colorado State University. Over the next five years the funding will be used to modernize testing equipment and further support research collaborations between industry and academia working to reduce methane leaks during production of natural gas.
Combined research through CSU Energy Institute has helped save more than 170 million tonnes of greenhouse emissions
Combined research activity and building operations at the Colorado State University Powerhouse Energy Campus has helped save nearly 170 million tons of greenhouse gas from entering the atmosphere over the last two decades. That is roughly equivalent to annual emissions from 24 large coal plants or the emissions savings of planting 4 million trees.
CSU, TotalEnergies join forces to create qualification standards for greenhouse gas measurement methods
The combined team will develop internationally recognized protocols to qualify methane and greenhouse gas emissions measurements.
Industry research group awards funding to CSU, partners for reconciling methane emissions discrepancies
The project will merge expertise from CSU and Pennsylvania State University to improve understanding of methane emissions uncertainties.
$50 million partnership with UT Austin to tackle challenge of oil and gas methane emissions accounting
CSU researchers led by Daniel Zimmerle, director of the CSU Energy Institute's Methane Emissions Program, are co-founders of the new Energy Emissions Modeling and Data Lab, headquartered at The University of Texas at Austin with additional partners at Colorado School of Mines.
Oil and gas companies track methane leaks on the ground, in the air and from space
“Generally speaking,” Zimmerle, “something like half or more of the emissions come from a small percentage of the emitters.” (Houston Chronicle)
Methane detectives: Can a wave of technology slash natural gas leaks?
With the capacity to run demanding, complex simulations where visiting crews must hunt for multiple small leaks at a time, CSU's METEC is the only facility of its kind in the country (Mother Jones).
High-tech methods deployed to stop methane gas emissions
The Methane Emissions Technology Evaluation Center is like a movie set for the oil and gas industry, complete with wellheads that leak on command. It's where companies test new products. CGTN's Hendrik Sybrandy reports.
